I was approached by David Cooke and Anthony Costello, Editors at The High Window and both acclaimed poets, with the idea for this volume, which stemmed from a challenge set to our class by Derek Walcott in 1993 – a challenge which it took me twenty-one years to complete. This long poem tells the story of the emigration of generations of Scots to Canada.
